FIRST-MATCH ANSWER

What should a new Hell Let Loose: Vietnam player do first?

Join a squad, say that you are new, choose a role with one clear responsibility, identify the active objective on the map and stay close enough to receive the next instruction. Learning why the squad is moving is more valuable than chasing an isolated elimination.

Your first five minutes

01 · MODE

Read the ruleset

Warfare, Offensive, Conquest and Domination do not share the same objective flow. Open the map and confirm which points are active.

02 · SQUAD

Find useful comms

Join a squad that is communicating. A short “new player, where do you need me?” gives the squad leader something actionable.

03 · TASK

Follow one purpose

Know whether the squad is moving, defending, regrouping or supporting another unit before you leave the spawn area.

Choose responsibility before equipment

A specialist role can affect supplies, transport, fire support, spawning or another team system. If you do not yet understand that loop, start with a simpler squad responsibility and observe how experienced players coordinate. Do not take a leadership, helicopter, armour or other limited seat only because it is available.

Use a four-part voice update

Say who needs the message, give a shared location, state what changed and finish with the needed action. “Squad lead, north bridge, route blocked, need a new approach” is more useful than a long description with no request. If nobody acknowledges, wait for a gap and repeat once more simply.

Review the match in three questions

  1. Which mode rule or map symbol did I misunderstand?
  2. When did I stop receiving information from the squad?
  3. What single behavior will I repeat or change next match?

One concrete adjustment—checking the map after each objective change, for example—creates faster progress than changing every setting and role at once.

Source and scope

The four launch modes and broad squad structure are documented in the official Steam announcements and official game overview. Role availability and game systems may change with updates; check the live client and current patch notes for version-specific behavior.

FIELD QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

What is the best first role in Hell Let Loose: Vietnam?

Choose a non-leadership squad role with one responsibility you can understand and communicate. Ask the squad leader what the team needs before taking a limited specialist seat.

Do I need a microphone?

Communication is a core part of the game. If voice is available, short acknowledgements and questions help; always follow platform, server and accessibility options available to you.

What should I learn before weapons and loadouts?

Learn the current mode, active objective, map symbols, spawn choices and your squad's purpose first.
